Privacy Policy

Introduction

Lab Tools Pro ("we," "our," or "us") is a research-only laboratory utility. This Privacy Policy explains what information is stored locally, when information may leave your device, and how optional services such as iCloud, PubMed search, and App Store purchases work.

Information We Collect

Information Stored by the App

• Calculation Data: Calculator inputs, outputs, history, notes, favorites, and most-used tools are processed and stored locally on your device.
• Lab Notebook and Inventory: Experiment entries, tags, linked calculations and protocols, photos and document scans you attach, inventory items, custom reagents, and lab profile preferences are stored locally for app functionality.
• Protocols, Recipes, Plates and Timers: Custom protocols and run progress, recipes and batch records, master mix templates, plate layouts, label sheet settings, timer templates, running timers, and timer history are stored locally so the app can restore your workflow.
• Widgets and Apple Watch: Summaries for widgets (such as running timers, recent experiments, and inventory alerts) are shared with the widgets through an app group on your device. Timers, the counter, and your inventory list are sent directly between your iPhone and your paired Apple Watch.
• Camera: When you choose to scan in Lab Inventory, barcodes, QR codes, and label text are read on your device; those camera images are not saved or uploaded. Photos and document scans you take for the Lab Notebook are saved on your device with that entry.
• Notifications: Timer, expiry, and trial reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device.
• Siri, Shortcuts, and Spotlight: The names of the app's calculators are indexed on your device so that Siri, the Shortcuts app, and Spotlight can open them. The app's Siri and Shortcuts actions run on your device and send nothing to DuttLabs. Siri requests themselves are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy practices.

Information We Do Not Collect

• We do not include third-party advertising, tracking, analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs.
• We do not collect location, contacts, health data, financial data, advertising identifiers, or browsing history.
• Calculator values and notebook content are not sent to a DuttLabs server. Lab Tools Pro does not use a DuttLabs account system or backend service.
• Apple may provide developers with aggregated crash and diagnostic information if you choose to share diagnostics with app developers in your Apple settings. The app does not collect this directly.

Optional Services

• Apple iCloud / CloudKit: If iCloud is available and turned on, your calculation history syncs between your iPhone and iPad through your private iCloud account. Other app data is not synced. This is governed by Apple's privacy practices.
• Apple StoreKit: Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple. We do not receive your payment card details.
• Handoff: If Handoff is turned on in your device settings, the calculator you have open (and, for some calculators, the values you entered) is offered to your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account, through Apple, so you can continue there. It is not sent to DuttLabs.
• PubMed Search: When you search PubMed inside the app, your search query is sent to NCBI E-utilities over HTTPS to retrieve results. Recent PubMed searches are stored locally for convenience.
• Support Email: If you contact us for support, we receive the information you choose to include in your message and use it to respond.

How We Use Your Information

Information stored by the app is used to:

• Provide and maintain the App's functionality
• Sync your calculation history between your iPhone and iPad via iCloud
• Show your calculation history, favorites, notebook entries, inventory, timers, and most-used tools
• Process subscription and lifetime purchases through Apple StoreKit
• Run user-initiated PubMed searches
• Respond to support requests

Data Storage and Security

Your app data is stored on your device using Apple platform storage such as Core Data, UserDefaults, and files in the app's private container. If iCloud sync is active, your calculation history is also stored in your private iCloud account. You should protect your device and Apple ID with a strong passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and two-factor authentication.

Data Retention

App data you create (calculations, notebook entries and attachments, inventory, custom protocols, recipes, plate layouts, custom reagents, and timers) is kept on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Settings > Data > "Clear All Data" permanently removes this data; when iCloud sync is on, it also deletes your calculation history from your other devices. If iCloud sync is on, calculation history remains in your private iCloud account until deleted; you can manage or remove it through Apple's iCloud settings. Support emails are retained only as long as needed to handle your request, after which they are deleted on request or in the normal course of mailbox housekeeping.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information and we do not use your data for tracking or advertising. Information leaves your device only in these cases:

• iCloud sync of your calculation history through Apple, if available and turned on
• Handoff of the calculator you have open to your own devices through Apple, if Handoff is turned on
• Purchases and subscription status through Apple StoreKit
• PubMed search queries sent to NCBI when you perform a PubMed search
• Files you choose to share, print, or export (for example PDF or CSV exports and label sheets), sent only where you send them
• Support emails sent by you
• When required by law or necessary to protect rights, safety, and security

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access: Review the data stored in the app by opening the relevant app sections.
• Export: Settings > Data > Export Data saves your calculation history, favorites, app settings, custom protocols, inventory, master mix templates, recipes, reagents and plate layouts to a file you can import again. Notebook entries export as PDF or CSV from the Notebook, and inventory also exports as CSV from Lab Inventory.
• Delete: Delete local app data from the app where available, use reset/delete options in Settings, or uninstall the app.
• iCloud Data: Manage iCloud data through Apple's iCloud settings.
• Support Email: Contact us to request deletion of support messages you sent, subject to legal and security needs.

Children's Privacy

Lab Tools Pro is intended for research and educational laboratory use. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through support email, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new policy and update the "Last Updated" date.

California residents may have additional rights, including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Contact us to exercise applicable rights.

European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, you may have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and data portability. The app primarily stores data locally or in your Apple iCloud account. Contact us for support-email requests or questions about these rights.
